China’s Economy Feeling Effect of Bird Flu

Published on Author crosby

China’s economy is starting to feel the affects of the recent deaths from the new bird flu strain. Bloomberg reports that Air China ltd.’s stock fell 12 percent. China Resources Land ltd. fell 3.2 percent. This is very concerning because the virus just started appearing in Poultry Plants and there hasn’t been proof of human-to-human transmission. If the deaths—six total so far—continue, stocks could start to plunge even more significantly. China also reported recently that certain drugs were showing that they fought the virus, but the two new deaths today are worrying some.
A decrease in airline stock also means that people aren’t coming into the country as much while little is known about the flu. Other industries will start to feel the affects of this if airline stock continues to fall.
